Who Needs Life Flight?

Life Flight is usually referring to the helicopters that respond to emergencies in a smaller geographical region or a city. Life flight helicopters are often owned and operated by hospitals or trauma centers but they can also be privately owned and operated. Cities and rural areas utilize life flight as a means of getting emergency patients to the hospital quickly.

What is Life Flight?
Life Flight services typically operate around the clock and are available 24 hours a day and 365 days a year, when weather permits. Life Flight responses are usually to calls within a 150-300. Most calls are to motor vehicle accidents or other similar emergencies like hiking and boating accidents. Approximately one out of every four calls involves a child. Life Flight helicopter are fast and can cruise at up to 150 mph. Each flight usually carries a pilot, paramedic and flight nurse and can transport up to two patients. Each life flight helicopter is inspected and serviced on a daily basis to ensure proper safety and maintenance.
